Information for D-Day veterans

As guests of honor, D-Day veterans will receive special recognition and opportunities at the coming commemoration. Special seating for D-Day veterans and their families will be available for the Commemoration ceremony on Saturday, June 6, 2009 (limited seating available – please contact the Foundation in advance to reserve seats in veteran seating areas). A hospitality tent/canteen for veterans and their families will also be set up at the commemoration, with plenty of opportunities for veterans to meet and reconnect.

D-Day veterans are also invited to contact the Foundation in advance to schedule an interview to have their wartime experiences recorded as part of the Veterans History Project. The Memorial is seeking oral histories from veterans of Operation Overlord and civilians on the homefront with memories of D-Day. Interviews will be recorded on DVD and housed in the archives of the National D-Day Memorial for use in educational programming. Interviews will be conducted throughout the four-day conference, but preregistration is required. Contact the Memorial’s Resource Center at (540) 586-2277 to schedule an interview during the commemoration event.
