From prisoners in camps clinging to hope, to families at home anxiously awaiting news, June 6, 1944 changed everything. To some it brought sorrow, to some it gave inspiration, and yet at the same time- it brought freedom to all. Today- we owe all that we know and have to the men who gave of themselves to fight for our freedom in the Second World War. We here at the National D-Day Memorial wish to extend to you, and your tour groups, the invitation to join us for:

“Overlord Echoes: The 65th Commemoration of D-Day”
...as we honor a generation that gave so much for freedom and liberty!

This is an exciting opportunity for veterans to plan their 2009 reunions here, in Bedford, Virginia. There are numerous hotels and conference centers within a 30 minute drive of the Memorial including Bedford, Smith Mountain Lake, Lynchburg, and Roanoke.

Imagine for a moment- this momentous occasion presents the opportunity for veterans to gather at our hospitality area and meet old comrades and new friends from across the globe at one of the largest gatherings of WWII veterans in the nation!

We will be offering events featuring many keynote speakers and guests, special presentations, the breathtaking memorial illuminated at night, and so much more! Their duty was to fight for us… our duty is to remember them. If your group desires to come to the commemoration, but not the entire conference, and are still interested in a historical/patriotic theme, there are a host of other such attractions within short distance such as Appomattox Courthouse, the Marshall Museum, Virginia War Memorial, the AAF Tank Museum, and many more destinations!

This may very well be the last opportunity for a large-scale gathering of WWII veterans. The youngest D-Day vets are 78 years old, and in five years for the 70th anniversary, there will be so very few left… Please make plans to join with us on this momentous anniversary!

The 65th Anniversary of D-Day at the National D-Day Memorial is the ideal complement for WWII military reunions. With conference facilities available in nearby Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Smith Mountain Lake and a host of special programs at the Memorial itself, we are the perfect venue for your annual gathering.

Further details are coming soon!  If you wish to learn more now or would like to schedule a group visit during the commemoration, please call the tour coordinator at 540-587-3619.
