Gina M. DiNicolo The first African American armored unit to see combat in WWII, the 761st Tank Battalion made history and contributed mightily to victory in WWII. Praised by no less than George Patton, the 761st is also known for its most famous soldier: future star and baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson. The National D-Day Memorial joins museums nationwide in the Blue Star Museums initiative, a program that provides free admission to currently-serving U.S. military personnel and their families. The 2024 season runs Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17, 2025 to Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2025. The Memorial is open daily, 10AM-5PM.
