Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest Combo Ticket – $20
Includes admission and tour at both sites. $8 – $10 discount over regular price. Cannot be combined with group tour discount. Valid for one year from date of purchase. Sites may be visited on separate dates.

Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest is open daily March 15 through December 30, offering docent-guided tours at 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. each day. Tours are currently limited to a maximum of 9 guests per tour. Visitors may enjoy self-guided tours of the house using a tour app. Search Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest from your mobile device. Face coverings are encouraged. Open for Winter Weekends from mid-January to mid-March. Guests are encouraged to reserve a tour time at www.poplarforest.org or by calling 434-534-8120. Closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Inclement Weather


Closings and delays are possible due to maintenance or inclement weather. The site is cleared if thunder or lightning are nearby. Closings and delays are announced on this website, the Memorial’s social media, and by push notification via our mobile app.

Guests may also call 540-586-3329 to hear the Memorial’s operational status.

To protect monument surfaces, we are unable to scrape or use de-icing agents. Therefore, the Memorial may remain closed for several days following a winter weather event, for guest safety.

Guided Walking Tours


When available, guided walking tours are scheduled daily between 10 AM and 4 PM. Tours are approximately one hour and leave from the Gift Shop. Guided tours may sometimes not be offered due to volunteer availability or during events.

For the safety of our guests and guides; guided tours may be suspended due to severe weather, extreme temperatures, or the air quality forecast.

Please call 540-586-3329 to check guided tour availability before your visit.

Patrons are not required to take the guided walking tour. With paid admission, visitors can stroll the grounds with the provided site map. The site map includes information on the architecture and the historical narrative of the Memorial.

Guests may also download the Memorial’s free app for Apple and Android to access features to enhance their visits including an interactive map, brick finder, and memorial wall name finder.

From Richmond: 360 west to 460 west; Follow signs to Lynchburg and Bedford. Take 2nd Bedford Exit. Take a right off of the exit onto Burks Hill Road. Take the next left at the Bedford Area Welcome Center for ticket purchases. Total distance – approximately 143 miles.

Alternate Route: 64 west to 81 south; take exit 150 to Alternate 220; Follow signs to 460 (Lynchburg and Bedford) and take a left onto 460 east. Travel approximately 25 minutes and take the 122 exit. Take a left off of the exit and proceed through the stoplight. Take an immediate left at the Bedford Area Welcome Center for ticket purchases.

Roanoke: 460 east to Route 122 north. Take the 122 exit. Take a left off of the exit and proceed through the stoplight. Take an immediate left at the Bedford Area Welcome Center for ticket purchases. Total distance- approximately 27 miles.
