and Programs

The National D-Day Memorial, the only monument in the nation to D-Day, is committed to educating the next generation about the largest amphibious assault to ever take place. A day that changed the course of history.

The Memorial offers on-site field trips, virtual field trips, and Traveling Trunks designed to complement your World War II curriculum. Each provides hands-on learning experiences for students of all ages, compatible with national social studies standards and the Virginia Standards of Learning. Each field trip includes options for accompanying lesson plans, interactive activities, tips to prepare for your program, and WWII and D-Day learning resources.

On-Site Field Trips

Students experience life as a D-Day soldier through an interactive program with artifacts from the period.

Each field trip includes a guided tour of the Memorial focused on student involvement and learning.

$5.00 per student and adult for groups of 25 or more. School personnel, including teachers and bus drivers, are free. $125 flat rate for groups of fewer than 25. $50 deposit due two weeks before visit.

Virtual Field Trips

Not able to come to Bedford? The National D-Day Memorial’s live, interactive virtual field trips allow students to connect to the Memorial’s virtual studio for programming on D-Day and World War II.

Take a tour of our site from a classroom anywhere in the world; or take advantage of special presentations on various topics related to WWII.

Classrooms require the following for connectivity:

  • reliable internet connection
  • computer
  • webcam
  • speakers
  • microphone

One 45-minute virtual program is $75. 

Traveling Trunks

Visit the National D-Day Memorial without ever leaving your classroom with a Traveling Trunk!

These footlockers are filled with real and reproduction artifacts from the period and accompanying lesson plans and activities.

A two-week reservation is $50 and includes shipping to your school. Schools are responsible for return shipping costs.
