April Cheek-Messier, National D-Day Memorial President & CEO, will deliver a keynote address during the annual public remembrance of the supreme sacrifices the "Bedford Boys" made on D-Day. This commemoration takes place on the West Lawn of the Bedford County Courthouse, in front of the memorial stone. The ceremony will culminate with the ringing of the courthouse bell 20 times, once for each “Bedford Boy” killed on D-Day. The bell will begin tolling precisely at 6:44PM (to represent June 6, 1944.) Church bells across Bedford County and communities around the globe will ring at 6:44PM local time in remembrance. Guests...

Town of Bedford, VA Fireworks Notice

Town of Bedford, VA

Though the Town of Bedford, VA's annual fireworks display is launched from the National D-Day Memorial grounds, the Memorial is not open for public viewing. The Memorial closes at 5PM on Monday, July 3, 2023. Spectators are encouraged to utilize parking areas at Liberty Lake Park (939 Burks Hill Rd.) and the Bedford Rec Field (780 Bedford Ave. Ext.) and are asked to not park along U.S. 460 and the ramps. The Bedford Area Welcome Center parking lot will be designated as handicap only vehicle parking. The show will livestream on the Town of Bedford, VA Facebook page.
