Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest is open daily March 15 through December 30, offering docent-guided tours at 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. each day. Tours are currently limited to a maximum of 9 guests per tour. Visitors may enjoy self-guided tours of the house using a tour app. Search Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest from your mobile device. Face coverings are encouraged. Open for Winter Weekends from mid-January to mid-March. Guests are encouraged to reserve a tour time at www.poplarforest.org or by calling 434-534-8120. Closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Walking tours are scheduled daily between 10 AM and 4 PM. Guided walking tours are approximately one hour and leave from the Gift Shop.
For our visitors requiring mobility assistance, wheelchairs are provided at no charge. Please request a wheelchair at the ticket counter. As part of our safety protocol, the wheelchairs are wiped clean after each use.
Patrons are not required to take the guided walking tour. With paid admission, visitors can stroll the grounds with the provided site map. The site map includes information on the architecture and the historical narrative of the Memorial. Guests may also download the Memorial’s free app for Apple and Android, to access features to enhance their visits.
For those who visit the Memorial site frequently, an annual membership pass is a great investment. By joining, you can show your support for the Memorial’s mission of recognizing the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of the Allied forces who stormed the Normandy beaches on D-Day, 6 June 1944.

Is there any advantage to coming in a group?
Yes, besides the camaraderie of sharing together in your National D-Day Memorial experience, you may be eligible for a reduced admission fee.
What do I need to do if my group wants to reserve a tour at the National D-Day Memorial?
First, decide on both a date and a specific hour for your planned tour. Next, make sure your group will have at least 13 members on the date and time you have selected. Groups with 13 or more patrons receive a reduced admission fee, provided they have made a reservation at least two weeks in advance of their anticipated arrival. Finally, call 540-587-3619 to make your reservation.
What if I have fewer than 13 people in my group and still want a reserved tour?
There is a flat fee of $100.00 for any group numbering less than 13 patrons. If you have less than 13 people in your group and would like to have a reserved tour, please call 540-587-3619.
Do you have any mobility assistance available?
Should you need mobility assistance for members of your party who are disabled, we do have a limited number of wheelchairs available at no cost.
For groups that have scheduled a tour in advance:
Please arrive 20 minutes early to check-in at the Memorial Gift Store. There, one designated person will be responsible for payment, and you will meet up with your tour guide. Contact us as soon as possible if you see that your party will be arriving late. Groups arriving more than 15 minutes late without advance notification will forfeit their guide. Please call this number to notify the Memorial of a late arrival – 540-587-5681.
Field trips include an interactive and curriculum standards-based program with artifacts in our authentic military tent and a guided tour of the Memorial.

During cold weather, the Memorial’s invasion tableau is drained for seasonal system maintenance. If you wish to see the invasion pool with water, it is recommended you visit late March thru November. Call 540-587-3619 to inquire about pool operation.

The National D-Day Memorial is a Blue Star Museum. From Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 21, 2022 through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2022 active-duty service members and up to five family members receive free Memorial admission. Click here for program eligibility and other participating sites.
On some occasions it is impossible for a group to schedule their visit during the Memorial’s normal operating hours: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
However, special arrangements can be made to have our site open before or after these hours for an additional fee.

Memorial guests are encouraged to stop by the Bedford Area Welcome Center (located just below the Memorial) for information about dining, lodging, and other area attractions.
There you can view a short film about D-Day and a “Welcome to Destination Bedford” video in the theater. Additionally, there is a firefighter’s gallery, gift store, outdoor picnic area, LOVE sign photo op, electric car charging station, and RV hook-ups.

Richmond: 360 west to 460 west; Follow signs to Lynchburg and Bedford. Take 2nd Bedford Exit. Take a right off of the exit onto Burks Hill Road. Take the next left at the Bedford Area Welcome Center for ticket purchases. Total distance – approximately 143 miles.
